Jacob’s Run

Annual Event

Jacob’s Run is not a race but a fun run in memory of Laurie and Bob Singer’s son, and Jackie and Jessica’s brother, Jacob. Nothing is timed and participation is free, but tax-deductible donations to the Jacob Singer Endowment in support of Child Life at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles will be gratefully accepted (click here, to donate via CHLA’s secure donations page).

Jacob lost his brief but mighty struggle against rhabdomyosarcoma shortly after his second birthday in 1987, but as a result of your generosity and that of the Singer family, Jacob’s light shines brightly still in the lives of so many kids and families. As they brave their own fights against childhood cancers, fights they are winning with greater frequency every year, the Child Life program provides hospitalized children with highly trained Child Life assistants and specially designed playrooms so they can focus on their most important work: play. Child Life specialists also coach families on coping with the major changes in their children’s health status, providing critical support when they need it most.

To date, through Jacob’s Run and other generous contributions from family and friends, we’ve raised more than $250,000 for Child Life and established the Jacob Singer Endowment to provide the ongoing funding necessary to support each and every family in need.

Jacob’s little sister, Jessica, made this personal documentary in 2014 as a way to learn about the brother she never met. It is proof that the strength of friends and family can sustain us even in the face of the greatest loss of all. We can’t wait to see all of you again this Fall to share that strength, soak in the sun, and have more than a few laughs while we celebrate Jacob’s life.
