Sometimes life is too hard to be alone, and sometimes life is too good to be alone.
– Elizabeth Gilbert

Our latest hero Lyssia has moved across the country to Boston, and for the very best of reasons: she is now a student at Walden School, supported by The Learning Center for the Deaf. Gaining admission there is difficult and hard won, and for the first time in her life Lyssia will be surrounded by others who, like her, are deaf and blind.

It is sometimes difficult to put into words the joy we feel when our friends reach new heights, when – as a result of their hard work and incredible persistence in the face of great obstacles – their lives make a sharp turn in the direction of their goals. So we’ll use pictures instead, which we hope reflect at least some amount of our great pride in and excitement for Lyssia’s new start.

We know that Lyssia is on her way to realizing the great potential life holds for her, and that she will finally feel the deep sense of belonging that comes from a community of others who know first-hand what life is like without sight or sound. Congratulations, Lyssia! We’re behind you all the way!
